In South Sudan, 3 humanitarian aid workers have been killed in 3 separate incidents over the last two weeks.
A humanitarian worker of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières lost his life in Lakes State on 23 October, when unidentified armed youth ambushed and shot at the marked NGO vehicle he was traveling on.
In Jonglei State, a humanitarian aid worker of Plan International was killed on 29 October and a community mobiliser working for Nile Hope was killed on 30 October. Both victims were delivering critical nutrition services to vulnerable people affected by subnational violence and floods when they were attacked by unidentified armed men. PLAN International and Nile Hope suspended their operations following the attacks.
In 2020 alone, 17 humanitarian workers have lost their lives in South Sudan. The escalation of violence risks disrupting the ongoing peace efforts and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid.
