SITUATION UPDATE
From January to March 2023, an estimated 2.5 million people comprising women, girls, boys and men in South Sudan were reached with humanitarian assistance and protection services. This represents nearly 37 per cent of the 6.8 million people targeted through the 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). Of those, 1.4 million people reached were female and 1.1 million people are male. Response achievements include more than 2.2 million people who received food assistance, livelihoods support and cash transfers; over 267,900 people reached with health care; approximately 135,200 people assisted with protection services; and some 187,829 people supported with access to safe water. Almost 204,400 children, and pregnant and breastfeeding women were provided with emergency nutritional assistance; and an estimated 211,200 people received essential household items and emergency shelter.
More than 18,665 metric tons of humanitarian cargo and over 10,613 UNHAS passengers were transported. Some 583,400 people were reached through camp coordination and camp management services; and over 134,150 children were supported with access to education in emergencies. Despite the low funding received in the first quarter some clusters used carry over funding from 2022 HRP to reach people with assistance and services. As of March, 172 humanitarian organizations contributed to the achievements presented in this dashboard. Of those, 56 per cent were South Sudanese non-governmental organizations. At the time of publishing, the HRP has secured US$424.2 million or 25 per cent against the requested $1.7 billion, with the United States of America, Central Emergency Response Fund and Germany being the top donors.
