SITUATION UPDATE

Between January and December 2022, estimated 4.9 million people comprising women, girls, boys and men in South Sudan were reached with humanitarian assistance and services. This represents nearly 73 per cent of the 6.8 million people targeted through the 2022 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). Response achievements include more than 4.17 million people who received food assistance and livelihoods support; over 1.22 million people reached with health care; approximately 865,700 people assisted with protection services; and some 726,500 people supported with access to safe water and sanitation. Almost 1.4 million children, and pregnant and breastfeeding women were provided with emergency nutritional assistance; and an estimated 889,100 people received essential household items and emergency shelter. More than 24,900 metric tons of humanitarian cargo and over 71,900 UNHAS passengers were transported. Some 1.19 million people were reached through camp coordination and camp management services; and over 320,200 children were supported with access to education in emergencies. As of December, 156 humanitarian organizations contributed to the achievements presented in this dashboard. Of those, 58 per cent were South Sudanese non-governmental organizations. At the time of publishing, the HRP has secured US$1.16 billion or 68 per cent against the requested $1.7 billion, with the United States of America, European Commission and Germany being the top funders.
