SITUATION OVERVIEW

Over 1.5 million people have been displaced inside South Sudan. Currently, 2.5 million people face severe food insecurity and this number is expected to rise as the lean season unfolds.

The immediate aims of the aid operation are to save lives, protect the rights of the most vulnerable - including their freedom of movement, and to protect, restore, and promote livelihoods. As the planting season approaches, supporting people's freedom of movement and their ability to plant and tend their animals safely is a key priority.

The Humanitarian Response Plan for 2015 aims to reach some 4.1 million people with humanitarian assistance. Of the $1.8 billion required for 2015, $199 million has been received as of 13 April.
