Situation overview
Greater Guit is one of the counties under Unity state, with an estimated population of 19,876 as per 2017 2020 projection/DTM.
Since the beginning of July Greater Guit has been receiving torrential rainfall which led to flooding in most part of the county, six Payams out of eight Payams including: Kadet, Bil, Niemni, Nyathoar, Kuerguina, Wathnyotna and some part of Kuach payam are flooded. As a result of floods, properties and livelihood have been destroyed living many without shelter, food and clean drinking water. Health facilities and schools in the affected areas have stopped operations, and one of WFP/WHH rub halls is likely to submerge with the heavy rains still witnessed across Unity state.
According humanitarian partners and authorities on the ground (RRC) 18,795 individuals (2,918 HHs) have been affected and most of the affected population are displaced to other locations including: Guit town, Marial, Burbur, Kuerlatjor, Nyathoar, Kuerguina, Maderessa, Kuach, thousands of herds of cattle have been expatriated to Guit town and other safer grounds. The health workers were able to report increase in number of Malaria and diarrhea cases in the past 7 days due to IDPs arrival in the area.
