Situation overview
Gogrial West County is the oldest and largest county in Greater Gogrial with an estimated 366,170 people in 9 payams. Gogrial west is one of the peaceful counties in Warrap state. Gogrial West is inhabited by 3 major communities namely Aguok, Kuac, and Awan. The flooding in the Gogrial west county reportedly started early June 2021 in Akon south Payam, and the entire Warrap due to heavy rain falls till mid-September 2021. The round Inter- agency assessment was conducted on 12 October 2021 in 4 payams of Gogrial West County, Alek west, Gogrial, Kuac south, and Kuac north payams, on the recommendation of the State ICCG meeting held on 6 October 2021.
The aim of the flood assessment was to assess and determine the immediate needs, people affected and its severity. The RRC in partnership with Humanitarian agencies has been working closely monitoring and responding to people displaced of affected by floods. The State RRC reported the overflow of rivers within the State due to the heavy rainfalls received that led to the flooding in the State, people displaced, unknown number of farms submerged in water, and houses damaged/destroyed.
The assessment was also to provide a snapshot of the potential needed resources, so that decisions can be quickly made about how much and what resources should be sourced. According to the observation of the people affected by floods in Gogrial West, priority needs include Food Assistance, Emergency Shelter Needs, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services and Hygiene Kits, Health and Nutrition and services, protection needs-dignity kits, and Fishing kits for Livelihood support.
The Inter-Agency IRNA exercise took one (1) day with no night spent out as most areas visited were close to each other and connecting along the same geographic area of the county. However, the assessment team managed to assessed seven (7) villages in Gogrial Payam. One (1) village in Kuach North and Yithliet village in Kuach South Payam, but one village reported flooded in Kuach South was not found flooded and no information was taken and hence it was omitted as flood free-affected Payam which does not need humanitarian action.
