Between January and December 2025, DTM reported on 527 spontaneous, 19 organized and 8 other types of population movement comprising of 753,084 IDPs (92%) and 69,923 returnees (8%) across ten states and Abyei Administrative Area. The top four drivers of displacement as of December 2025 include, national conflict, accounting for 40 per cent of the displacements, disaster (flooding) 29 per cent, localised conflict (15%), and Sudan conflict (7%). Fifteen per cent of the IDPs were displaced by disaster (flooding) to locations in Jonglei State, and 29 per cent in Upper Nile State.
