Cueibet county borders Rumbek North County to the north-east, Rumbek Centre County to the east, and Wulu County to the south. It also has borders with Warrap State (Tonj South and Tonj East Counties) to the west. A primary road cuts across Cueibet County roughly on a horizontal axis, connecting the three main towns of Langdit, Cueibet and Abiriu, as well as Rumbek Town to the east and Tonj (Warrap State) to the west of the county. The Bahr Gel River flows northwards through the county. The county headquarters is located in Cueibet Town in Cueibet Payam. The market at Cueibet town relies on commodities transported from Rumbek Centre, which serves as the main commodities market for most of Lakes State.
Market functionality has been disrupted in recent years due to both inter-communal violence and seasonal flooding that have restricted the accessibility of roads. According to OCHA’s Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) for 2020, over 104,000 people in Cueibet County have significant humanitarian needs, particularly with extreme levels of need for GBV services.1 Since April of 2021 RRC has been sharing reports on the impacts of flooding in the various communities in Cueibet. The purpose of this IRNA was to provide immediate and a quick overview of situation of the affected populations and to determine their dire needs and potential impacts of the crisis. The findings of this assessment would guide the clusters in their specific response in determining to the humanitarian situation.
