While the humanitarian situation continued to deteriorate during the month of May, aid agencies scaled up their operation to reach 1.4 million people with assistance. However, amid a deterioration of food security, combined with increasing malnutrition, the humanitarian situation is likely to worsen by early 2015.
As of 8 June 2014, 1,500 cholera cases including 31 deaths had been recorded since 23 April 2014. The case fatality rate of 2.1 per cent was still above emergency threshold.
