Program Overview
Within South Sudan, IOM implements Camp Management and site development programming in four IDP camps, including Bentiu—the largest in the country. The programme supports approximately 160,000 individuals, contributing to improved living conditions, coordination, and service delivery in displacement settings. These efforts are made possible through the generous support of the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance (BHA), which concluded in January 2025, as well as the ongoing support of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), and the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM).
Updates & Context
Since April 2023, over 1.1 million people have arrived in South Sudan from Sudan, adding to existing humanitarian pressures. In the first quarter of 2025, heightened tensions and armed clashes in Nasir and Ulang counties, Upper Nile State, led to the displacement of tens of thousands, with some seeking refuge in neighboring Ethiopia. These developments have contributed to increased needs in displacement sites across the region. CCCM partners, in coordination with other actors, continue to support efforts to manage population movements, strengthen service delivery, and ensure a principled and coordinated response despite operational and access challenges.
