Overview
As of 27 March 2016, the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the UN Mission in South Sudan’s Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu is 115,014. The second March 2016 population count was held in Bentiu PoC from 25 - 27 March 2016.
Compared to the previous count conducted at the mid March, the population decreased from 116,538 individuals to 115,014 individuals, despite registering more than 1,000 new arrivals between the two counts. The reason for the drop in population could be attributed to the relative presence of peace outside the PoC and humanitarian partners’ efforts to provide services outside Bentiu PoC which may have encouraged free movement of IDPs to nearby villages.
