Human Rights Council
Fifty-eighth session
24 February–4 April 2025
Agenda item 2
Annual report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and reports of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General
Summary
In the present report, submitted pursuant to Human Rights Council resolution 55/1, the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan provides an overview of the human rights situation in South Sudan in 2024 and other critical developments. The leaders of South Sudan continued to delay and mismanage the political transition, fomenting violence, insecurity, displacement, repression and human rights, humanitarian and economic crises. Impunity fuelled widespread sexual violence, ethnic-based conflicts, extrajudicial killings and economic predation. To address the gross human rights violations, it remains urgent to resource institutions, including for the purposes of holistic transitional justice.
