OVERVIEW
The lives of refugees are being improved by humanitarian aid at the Malakal Transit Center. Important services like cash assistance for buying food, transportation to safer areas, and high-energy biscuits to fight hunger are being provided by the World Food Program, World Vision, and UNHCR. The World Health Organization, health implementing partners, and the State Ministry of Health are making sure children get the essential immunizations against illnesses like polio.
The beneficiaries of these services have conveyed their appreciation, pointing out the benefits of the assistance given. Many value the financial assistance to purchase food, the guidance on protecting their money, and the instant alleviation of hunger upon arrival. To avoid extended stays at the transit center, which leads to hardships, expedited transportation to other locations needs to be improved, they say.
There are still challenges to resolve. Although the aid is well received, some of the refugees continue to face hunger during the onward transportation to the Transit Center. Efforts are being made to ensure service delivery is streamlined and provided in a safe, equitable, and timely manner.
