The Voices on The Move is a humanitarian project by Jamjang 89.4 FM, a radio station in Ajuong Thok refugee camp, Pariang County, Ruweng Administrative Area (RAA). It helps create a safe information environment and works with protection experts to address information-related risks for vulnerable communities. The project builds trust in information from response actors and identifies harmful content like misinformation and hate speech. Jamjang 89.4 FM, which is managed by the Community Engagement Network an Internews partner under the BPRMfunded project, broadcasts 13 hours daily, reaching a 70-kilometer radius and serving over 130,000 Sudanese refugees and a local population of about the same size in Yida, Ajuong Thok, and Jamjang. The Voices on the Move project through Jamjang FM continues to increase the flow of humanitarian life-saving information among refugees and host communities by providing a platform for dialogue, sharing diverse perspectives, and promoting understanding among different groups.
The project has established safe, accessible, and life-saving information services to mitigate various risks and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian response services for refugees, returnees, and host communities.
Overview
The influx of refugees fleeing the conflict in Sudan is putting unprecedented pressure on humanitarian service delivery. Many humanitarian agencies are having to use an adoptive approach to cope with the gaps that keep cropping up due to the new arrivals.
CEN in Jamjang collected feedback from refugees in Ajuong Thok and Pamir refugee camps. The highest number of concerns highlighted the challenges in the registration process which is affecting access to service delivery. Other issues raised were on health, food and livelihoods. Most of the respondents were females and the elderly.
