Italy announced at a conference of South Sudan donors in Oslo that it would earmark an additional 3.5 million euro, as per a decision by Minister for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini. The funds will go to emergency interventions as follows: 1.5 million to Italian NGOs and 2 million to multilateral Unite National agencies operating in the areas of food security (WFP), refugee assistance (UNHCR) and the protection of children (UNICEF). The sum is in addition to the 1.25 million already disbursed for South Sudan between late 2013 and the first quarter of the current year.

“This is Italy’s response to a donors appeal, through Norwegian foreign minister Brende of the UN humanitarian aid coordinators and European Commissioner for Humanitarian Coordination Georgieva, to consolidate financial efforts in support of the humanitarian aid drive”, explained Minister Mogherini.
