IOM South Sudan Monthly Update October 2018

SITUATION OVERVIEW

The situation in Juba remained calm throughout the month, most pertinently during an event attended by Government, opposition and regional leaders to celebrate the recent peace agreement. However, in other parts of the country, armed clashes throughout the month led to the continued suffering of South Sudanese communities. As the Ebola Disease Virus (EVD) outbreak impacts the lives of people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), the humanitarian community in South Sudan continues prevention measures along both countries’ border with the DRC.

October Highlights

  • IOM’s Migration Management Team supported the Government of South Sudan in drafting the first ever migration policy for the country

  • More than 10,000 young people attended IOM’s World Mental Health Day event from IDP and host communities

  • 300+ people took part in a community peace event organized by IOM-supported secondary school peace clubs in collaboration with the Department of Education
