Executive Summary
BBC Media Action was engaged by Concern Worldwide to conduct a study on the Information and Accountability Ecosystems (IAE) study in Aweil West, Malakal and Renk counties of South Sudan. This is part of WFP’s Strengthening Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) in Humanitarian Emergency project implemented by Concern Worldwide through CEN and TRC. The findings aim to inform the design of effective accountability mechanisms and communication strategies to strengthen WFP’s response
to the South Sudan humanitarian crisis. Therefore, the study assessed the needs, priorities and preferences of communities in the three locations in terms of information access and communication channels, accountability mechanisms (especially CFM), and safeguarding reporting (PSEA).
The study applied a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative surveys (n=208) with 15 FGDs and 15 KII conducted between 15 – 26 September 2025. Respondents were adults from host communities, PoC sites, IDP camps, transit centres and refugee camps. The respondents were dominantly women (69%), and 41% were aged 25-34 years.
