South Sudan is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis characterized by extensive internal displacement. The underlying causes of these displacement dynamics are varied and include communal clashes, land disputes, insecurity, violence, natural hazards, and cross-border movements.

In Juba County, armed clashes have been reported between the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition (SPLM-IO) forces at the Gorom Military Barracks in Rejaf Payam. These clashes appear to be a continuation of earlier skirmishes, with reports indicating that civilians have been displaced toward Juba Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. Previous incidents in late March 2025 also caused significant displacement from areas such as Mangateen, Mapaw, and other nearby locations. Many individuals are now residing in makeshift shelters and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

In Abiemnhom County, an armed group originating from Mayom County seized control of Abiemnhom town within the Ruweng Administrative Area. This event forced several people to flee to safer locations such as Ajakuac in Twic County and Juljok in the Rumameer/Abyei Administrative Area. Community leaders have issued urgent calls for humanitarian intervention to address the needs of those displaced by this conflict.

In the Abyei Administrative Area, an incident occurred in Leu involving confrontations between youths from Abyei and armed youth from Unity State. While this clash resulted in casualties on both sides, it did not lead to any displacement of the local population.

In Yambio County, attacks along key roads such as Yambio-Maridi and Nzara-Tambura have been reported. These incidents caused casualties but did not result in recent displacement within the area.

These events underscore the ongoing instability across South Sudan and highlight the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges faced by affected communities.
