HIGHLIGHTS

South Sudan is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis characterized by extensive internal displacement. The underlying causes of these displacement dynamics are varied and include communal clashes, land disputes, insecurity, violence, natural hazards, and cross-border movements.

Between 19 and 31 March 2025, IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) tracked the displacement of 852 individuals, 61 per cent of whom were women and girls. All recorded displacements occurred in Juba County and were primarily caused by national conflicts. As a result, there has been a significant increase in urgent humanitarian needs among the affected population. Displaced individuals identified sanitation facilities, access to water, and health services as their most pressing concerns.

These events underscore the ongoing instability across South Sudan and highlight the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to address both immediate needs and long-term challenges faced by affected communities.
