The International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), in collaboration with the Protection, and Shelter and Shelter and Settlement units, conducted a biometric registration exercise in Aweil East to document the host community population. This initiative aimed to facilitate access to humanitarian assistance and address the immediate needs of local communities more effectivey.
During routine maintenance activities, DTM facilitates several critical services. These include registering newborn babies, issuing replacements for lost identification cards, consolidating households that request to be merged into a single unit, and addressing protection cases referred by partner organizations specializing in Protection services. In January 2025, IOM successfully registered 2,661 individuals across 900 households from the returnee and host community populations.
The Shelter and Settlement unit provided Multipurpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) to 891 flood-affected internally displaced households (2,626 individuals) in Aweil East, addressing their urgent humanitarian needs. Many of these households, either displaced or struggling in their areas of habitual residence, were identified as highly vulnerable through a detailed needs assessment. In coordination with the Protection unit, the Shelter and Settlement team developed and applied targeting criteria to ensure that assistance reached the most at-risk households.
