Cholera outbreak in Juba, Central Equatoria State - Situation Report (Sitrep No. 2) as at 18:00 Hours; 17 May 2014

ƒ Thirty (30) new cases were admitted at cholera treatment centre (CTC) in Juba Teaching Hospital (JTH) on 17 May 2014. One new death involving a 25-year-old female from Gudele 1 occurred on 16 May 2014. A total of 12 cases were discharged on 17 May 2014 leaving 63 patients on admission in the cholera treatment centre.

ƒ Overall, a cumulative of 78 cholera cases including three (3) deaths (CFR 3.8%) have been reported since the onset of the outbreak on 25 April 2014. The majority of the reported cases 72 (92%) have been treated in the JTH CTC.

ƒ Cholera cases have been reported from seven Payams in Juba county with the most affected being Northern Bari 33 (42%), Muniki 16 (21%), Juba 12 (16%), Rejaf 8 (10%), and Kator 6 (8%).

Figure one shows the outbreak trends since the onset of the outbreak on 23 April 2013.
These trends show a propagated outbreak with increasing transmission in the affected communities.
