GREATER EQUATORIA (CENTRAL, EASTERN, AND WESTERN EQUATORIA)
General Situation: In January 2025, Greater Equatoria experienced significant displacement due to the fear of armed Bor cattle herders. Approximately 7,000 individuals were displaced from Nyollo and Ayii Bomas of Agoro Payam. The displaced individuals moved to various locations, including Magwi town, Lobure Boma, and even crossing into Uganda and Nimule.
Key Updates:
- Displacement and Response: The DRC mobile team and partners like Rescue Mission and NRC conducted multi-response activities in four IDP sites (Nakofo, Nambia, Manzinzi, and Regina Mundi) in Ezo Payam of Ezo County. These activities were in response to the Tombura conflict, which displaced many individuals from October 2024 to January 2025.
- Registration for Assistance: The DRC registered 1,500 IDP households for Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance (MPCA) in Regina Mundi, while NRC registered IDPs in Nakofo, Manzinzi, and Nambia for MPCA.
- Health and Sanitation: MSF expressed the need to close sites in IDP 3 due to declining cases, and S/NFIs and WASH activities were conducted by TERM. Open defecation remains a significant risk factor in camps 1 and 3.
UPPER NILE STATE
General Situation: The security situation in Upper Nile State remained calm across all CCCM operation sites, with no major incidents reported. However, additional police officers were deployed in Bulukat Transit Center due to tensions in Sudan targeting South Sudanese refugees.
Key Updates:
- Site Coordination and Health: Two site coordination meetings were held to address cholera cases, with discussions on upgrading temporary shelters for vulnerable refugees and returnees. Outreach teams disseminated messages on cholera prevention and humanitarian services.
- Care and Maintenance: Activities included clearing grass, desilting drainage channels, road grading, and water pumping operations to mitigate flooding and erosion risks.
- Community Engagement: Mass cleaning campaigns and profiling of refugee households for relocation were conducted. Community complaints related to health, protection, NFIs, and food were recorded and addressed.
