Two year after the Independence of the Republic of South Sudan

July marked two years of independence ot the Republic of South Sudan. During last two year of South Sudan’s independence, UNMAS has supported the clearance of over 13,000 acres and 3,000 km of roads, enabling the delivery of life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable people.

DCA conducts Mine Risk Education training to teachers

As part of its Mine Risk Education programme, Dan Church Aid (DCA) conducts Mine Risk Education (MRE) to school teachers in greater Kapoeta. The training course was held for 3 days with participation of 48 teachers from 28 different schools. During the training course, each teacher was provided with a training manual and corresponding poster pack, designed collaboratively by the Ministry of Education, National Mine Action Authority, UNICEF and United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS).

While external Risk Education teams visit schools, children, particularly younger children, require frequent and repetitive MRE education. This is more affectively achieved through training of teachers and inclusion of MRE in school curriculum.
