People who fled ethnic violence in the town of Pibor in the Jonglei State of South Sudan are returning to their homes, according to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
Earlier this week South Sudanese soldiers of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) fired on armed youth from the Lou Nuer ethnic group who attacked the town.
They were part of about 6,000 armed youth who had besieged Pibor which is home to the Murle tribe.
UNMISS spokesman, Kouider Zerrouk says the situation in Pibor is now calm.
“The situation, generally speaking, is under control. The SPLA are in town and a certain important number of IDPs who fled Pibor following the attack are returning to Pibor as of today. So generally speaking, the youth who attacked the Pibor town are on their way back to their locations.”
