Fight against the LRA: UN/AU joint mission to South Sudan and DRC from 24 March to 04 April 2013

Messrs. Abou Moussa and Francisco Madeira undertake a joint mission to South Sudan and to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from 27 March to 04 April.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), Mr. Abou Moussa, and the AU Special Envoy for the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), Mr. Francisco Madeira, undertake a joint mission to South Sudan and to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) from 27 March to 04 April. They will meet with authorities and relevant partners for an update on the implementation of the UN Regional strategy to address the threat posed by the LRA, amongst other things. As soon as possible, they will be organizing similar joint political missions to Uganda and Central African Republic (CAR).

"The UN is very concerned by what happened in CAR. But, for the moment, there is no reason why we should stop to provide our support to the African Union in the framework of the fight against the LRA, which is a priority for the UN", according to Mr. Abou Moussa.

Shortly, the UN Secretary-General will present a Report on this issue to the Security Council.
