East Coast Fever in Jonglei under control

A month-long campaign to get rid of East Coast Fever has successfully ended in Jonglei State, in which more than 3,000 animals were treated.

A team of veterinary doctors and specialists from the National Ministry of Animal Resources visited four payams in Bor county, vaccinating and treating animals against the disease.

The Minister of Animal Resource and Fisheries, Martin Elia Lomoro, said they were able to stop the disease from spreading further.

"We are able to contain it; we are able to treat even late cases with a new drug, peroxide plus. We also trained staff of the Ministry of Animal Resources in the state to acquire the necessary knowledge to deal with the situation," said Lomoro.

According to the minister, farmers expressed happiness about the vaccination exercise.

"In the closing remarks, one was able to hear positive voices not only from the leadership but also from the pastoralist community who actually benefited from the exercise".

East Coast Fever is a disease caused by infected ticks that affects cattle, sheep and goats.
