ACTED first to monitor displacements in Jonglei, South Sudan

AKOBO, South Sudan [ACTED News] - Following the eruption of the crisis in Jonglei state, South Sudan, tens of thousands of people – particularly women and children – were displaced. ACTED was the first NGO to send an assessment team to Akobo, a distant town accessible only by boat. Approximately 26,000 IDPs and conflict-affected individuals are gathered in Akobo town, and are in desperate need of basic services. ACTED is the first agency to intervene in the area. ACTED expects to distribute non-food items and shelter assistance, as well as to construct boreholes and latrines, for the conflict-affected community in Akobo town.
