JUBA [ACTED News] - Following South Sudan’s declaration of independence on 9 July 2011, the security situation on the border between Sudan and South Sudan has steadily deteriorated. Populations of Blue Nile State in south-east Sudan have been fleeing areas targeted by attacks since November 2011, and finding refuge in South Sudan. Tens of thousands of refugees arrive every day, and the situation is quickly escalating into a dramatic crisis.
ACTED has conducted assessments in the camps of Doro, which is host to 28,000 people, and Jamam, where the population has grown from 4,000 to 20,000 refugees in only one month. Populations are in need of water, shelter, food, and decent living conditions.
