20 killed in Lakes cattle raid

(3rd April 2013) - Twenty people have been killed and 12 others wounded in a fresh cattle raid in Rumbek Central in Lakes state, an official said.

The Lakes State Deputy Governor Mabor Achol Kuer, said that the wounded include a woman and are receiving treatment in the State hospital.

Kuer, said that raid was at Thou cattle camp and the attackers are suspected to have come from the neighboring Unity state.

The deputy governor of Unity State, Michael Chiangjiek, said his government has not received any official report on the incident.

He reiterated his state government’s support to work together with Lakes in eliminating issues of cattle raids.

“We have not received information in regard to the issue of cattle rustling and what I know so far that there was some incident that involved only people of Lakes State as it is mentioned in Sudan Tribune this morning, so we haven’t received any. There is no any report given to us that there is some incident. So I was with all the commissioners, I talk to commissioner of Mayendit and Panyjir County this morning and the reported that the situations is calm,” he said.
