Heavy rainfall and strong winds have been affecting south-western South Africa, in particular the Cape town city area since 7 July, causing a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in population displacement and severe damage.
Media report, as of 10 July, approximately 4,000 displaced people and around 1,000 damaged houses across the area of Cape Town, where the worst affected is the Khayelitsha township.
Over the next 72 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is still forecasted over south-western South Africa, including the already affected area.
