Red Cross assists Mpumalanga flood victims

Red Cross South Africa has come to the aid of flood victims in Mpumalanga. Floods and thunderstorms hit the province three weeks ago and caused damage estimated at R500 million.

National Co-ordinator Mbuso Mthembu says, "We are going to come back and train them, we are going to train them on disaster management so that because Red Cross is always coming for the first aid situation. We want them to be able to do something before anybody else come; we are also going to train them on community first aid."

Earlier this week, Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Richard Baloyi visited the areas in the Lowveld that were affected by the recent storms in the province. He said a budget has been set aside for disasters.
