  • Events to commemorate the World AIDS Day were convened all over Somalia and included sports activities, performances by local traditional dancers and singers and official receptions focusing on awareness-raising.

  • General decrease in the total new admissions for nutrition services since January to date across all regions due to closure of nutrition programmes across the country as humanitarian funding levels have reduced significantly.

  • Since January 335,571 people from vulnerable communities including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), school children, and users of health facilities gained access through sustained longer term safe water systems.

  • Across Somalia 77,474 children under-10 were vaccinated against polio during the first week of December. The total polio cases recorded as of end November stand at 183 - no new Wild Polio Virus cases were reported in December.

  • In Central South Somalia, on 12 December, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud nominated Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed as the new Prime Minister.
