Highlights

  • The February 2025 IPC analysis estimates that 4.4 million people—nearly a quarter of Somalia’s population—will face crisis-level food insecurity (IPC Phase 3 or higher) between April - June 2025. This includes 1.7 million children with acute malnutrition, 466,000 of them facing Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and 1.2 million with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM).
  • A convergence of crises, including intensifying drought, conflict, and insecurity, is escalating humanitarian needs. Funding cuts have cut the number of front-line workers able to respond; and many partners have stopped operating, placing millions of vulnerable Somali children and families at greater risk.
  • The Humanitarian Action for Children (HAC) appeal remains critically underfunded, with only 7 per cent of required funding secured. This funding gap severely limits UNICEF’s ability to deliver critical life-saving assistance to those in greatest need.
