Geneva (dpa) - Over 17.5 million
people are in urgent need of food relief on the Horn of Africa, said a
spokesperson for the U.N. World Food Programme on Tuesday in Geneva.
Ethiopia and Eritrea were in special
need of food and water due to last year's droughts and failed harvests,
the agency reported, saying that 163 million dollars of financial aid was
needed to prevent a humanitarian disaster.
The United Nations reported that approximately 70 per cent of the population of Eritrea was effected.
