Statement regarding the killing of two GTZ employees outside Berbera, Somalia

The Somalia Aid Coordination Body (SACB) comprising donors, UN agencies and non governmental organisations is deeply shocked and saddened by the murder of two GTZ (German Agency for Technical Assistance) employees who were shot dead outside Berbera this morning, Friday 19 March 2004.
The members of the SACB condemn these murders in the strongest possible terms and express deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims' family and friends.

The SACB sees this most recent tragedy as a continuing serious deterioration in security focused on international aid workers in Somalia. The safety of humanitarian aid workers is imperative and such incidents cannot be tolerated. The SACB expects the Somaliland Administration to do everything necessary to bring the perpetrators to justice.
