Regional Highlights

-The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures changes in the price of commodities included in Minimum Basket, increased in most Somali Shilling areas (SoSh) during the month of January 2011. The CPI increase in the Somali Shilling zone is mainly attributed to rising prices of sorghum, sugar, cooking oil and milk, which together account for a large portion of the cost of the basket across Somalia (44-76%). Current the CPI is 132-168 percentage above the reference year (March 2007) in SoSh areas.
