During the week ending 30th April 2007, the Juba and Shabelle catchments in Somalia received moderate to light rains (see table below).
The Ethiopian side of these catchments also received moderate to light rains as indicated in the 7-day cumulative satellite rainfall estimate image below. Field reports have confirmed reduction of rainfall in the Ethiopian catchments compared to the previous two weeks.
The rainfall forecast for the coming week is calling for increased rains in the Ethiopian highlands and the Juba catchment in Somalia. The forecast for Lower Shabelle is calling for light rains during the forecast period.
Moderate level risk of flooding in the lower reaches of Shabelle River in Somalia remains.
