During the week ending on 20th April 2015, moderate to heavy rains were received within the Juba and Shabelle river basins both in Somalia and within the Ethiopian highlands. Satellite rainfall estimates indicates moderate to heavy rainfall was received in the two river basins.
The rainfall forecast for the coming week indicates an increase of rainfall activities within the two basins both inside Somalia and within the Ethiopian highlands. Given the increasing trend of river levels along the Shabelle and the foreseen rainfall, there is a high risk of flooding in the middle and lower reaches of the river. However, there is no risk of river flooding along the Juba during the same period.
