OVERVIEW
This latest round of Emergency Trends Tracking was initiated in February 2025 to monitor displacement movements during the Jilaal dry season. Since February 2025, DTM teams have collected data in 25 districts: Afgooye, Afmadow, Baardheere, Baidoa, Balcad, Belet Weyne, Belet Xaawo, Bu’Aale, Bulo Burto, Cabudwaaq, Dayniile, Dhuusamarreeb, Diinsoor, Doolow, Gaalkacyo, Garoowe, Hodan, Jamaame, Jowhar, Kahda, Kismaayo, Luuq, Qansax Dheere, Waajid, and Xudur.
Due to funding limitations, the scope of data collection was reduced to 15 districts in July 2025 and further reduced to five districts starting from week 26 (23–27 August 2025). In addition, operational challenges in identifying these districts led to a data collection gap between 2 and 20 August 2025. From week 26, data collection resumed in five priority districts: Baidoa, Dayniile, Diinsoor, Doolow, and Kahda.
During this reporting period (October - December 2025), DTM teams recorded 53,877 new arrivals across 5,694 settlements (83% urban and 17% rural settlements, among which 4,452 IDP sites) in the 5 districts DTM was operating in. Drought induced most new displacements (56%), with the other causes being conflict (41%), eviction (3%), floods, and other natural hazards (<1% each).
