Humanitarian partners, the Somali Government and local communities have stepped up to assist thousands of people affected by flash floods in several areas.

At least 84,000 people have been affected, with at least 17 killed due to heavy rains and flooding. Widespread Infrastructure damage is reported, hindering access to people in need.

On 12 May, flooding affected several areas in Jowhar district including displacement sites, impacting about 16,200 displaced people and damaging shelters.

A general reduction in rainfall is forecasted in the coming days. Dry conditions are projected to persist in parts of Puntland, Somaliland, Mudug and Middle Juba.

The flooding comes at a time when aid operations are constrained by severe funding cuts. The 2025 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan is only 11 per cent funded.
