The Somalia 2023 Deyr Floods Rapid Post-Disaster Needs Assessment provides an in-depth analysis of the severe impacts caused by unprecedented flooding during Somalia's Deyr rainy season. Affecting 2.48 million people and displacing over 1.2 million, the floods devastated livelihoods, infrastructure, and communities across 16 districts. Conducted by the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) in collaboration with UN agencies, the World Bank, and the European Union, the assessment estimates total damages and losses at $193.4 million and identifies $250.2 million in recovery needs. Key affected sectors include farming and livestock, water and sanitation, and transportation.

The report highlights the cascading effects of the floods, including loss of homes, disrupted education, strained health services, and heightened food insecurity. Vulnerable groups, such as women, children, and displaced persons, bore the brunt of the disaster. It emphasizes the need for cross-cutting recovery strategies that address immediate needs while strengthening resilience against future climate-related shocks. The report underscores the importance of inclusive approaches and gender-responsive interventions to ensure that recovery efforts do not leave anyone behind.
