**Objective**
To safeguard the agricultural value chains and livelihoods of the most affected and at-risk vulnerable rural households in Middle Shabelle and Jubaland states in Somalia.
Activities implemented
• Procured and distributed 171 tonnes of seed (50 tonnes of cowpea, 44 tonnes of maize, 50 tonnes of mung bean, 26 tonnes of sorghum and 1 tonne of assorted vegetable seeds) as well as 13 922 handheld tools and 69 500 hermetic storage bags to 6 973 households.
• Distributed USD 128 700 in cash transfers to 1 650 of the beneficiary households (USD 78/household) to access irrigation services from local pump owners.
• Trained eight implementing partner staff (four on good agricultural practices and four on family nutrition) through training of trainers, who then cascaded the training to 723 lead farmers, 101 family nutritionists and ultimately 4 442 project participants across target areas.
• Procured and distributed 80 000 geotextile bags to the districts of Jowhar and Luuq to create flood barriers along the critical infrastructures and homes in the flood-prone neighbourhoods.
• Collected and analysed high-resolution topographic data in Jowhar, Middle Shabelle through ground control points, drone surveys and contour mapping to produce a high-resolution Digital Elevation Model for flood modelling and the Jowhar Offstream Storage Programme feasibility study.
• Conducted three visual river breakage analyses along the Juba and Shabelle rivers using remote sensing to identify breakages, overflows and vulnerable sites.
• Produced and disseminated 113 information products and delivered 30 briefings to various stakeholders on current and emerging food security and nutrition trends and engaged 416 government and local university staff in seasonal assessments and Integrated Food Security Phase Classification analyses.
