EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Under the 3-year CMAM Avancé project funded by GiveWell, IRC Somalia supports selected facilities in four regions, with 3 Stabilization Centers (SC), 3 fixed health facilities (OTPs/SFPs), and 17 mobile outreach sites (OTPs/SFPs) when programming debuted in mid-2021. The project has adjusted its geographic focus in response to needs over the course of funding. In August 2022, the project expanded to cover six new sites in Galkayo District (Mudug region) previously supported by another partner but facing a service provision gap since July 2022 – and dire need related to the drought. In Dhusamareb district in Galgadud region, we expanded to another IDP site in March 2022, as the result of drought displacement.

The main objective of the project is to increase the coverage of malnutrition treatment services in a cost-effective manner. Coverage estimates will therefore be important for monitoring the cost-effectiveness of programs. The reasons for suboptimal coverage will be important to guide the program to better address barriers to maximizing coverage during its 3 years of implementation. This report summarizes the results of quantitative coverage surveys conducted in the catchment areas of Galkayo District, Mudug region, after eleven to twelve months of support by CMAM Avancé in old catchment areas in this region, and 4 months of support in new catchment areas in this region. We also present the results of our coverage surveys in the catchment area of the one health facility in Wadajir District,
Banadir region. We explain our reservations utilizing the baseline and End of Year 1 coverage estimates as representative of the population served by the project.
