In response to the appeal of the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, to support the victims of the drought disaster in Somalia, the Government of the Sudan donated the amount of US$100,000.00 through OIC’s Emergency Program for the Relief of Affected Somalis, which is being implemented by many partners operating in Mogadishu.
Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu praised the assistance provided by the Sudan, calling on the Member States and humanitarian organizations in the Muslim world to respond promptly to this humanitarian duty and to provide generous aids to the people of Somalia through this program in these exceptional circumstances. On the other hand, Dr. Mutrif Siddiq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan, announced that his ministry will continue its efforts to mobilize support to the Somali people in coordination with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
