Key Highlights
· Below-average Deyr rains in 2024 have pushed 4.4 million people into IPC Phase 3+ by December, worsening food insecurity.
· Since January 2024, over 467,915 people have been displaced due to conflict, insecurity, drought, and flooding, including 1,696 displaced by drought from October to November. In November alone, 39,757 new displacements were recorded, with Togdheer reporting the highest numbers (22,556).
· In November 2024, 29,286 individuals were evicted, contributing to a total of 197,000 evictions since January, with the majority occurring in Somalia's largest IDP hub Banadir. These evictions frequently destroy humanitarian structures, disrupting aid delivery and hindering durable solutions.
· In 2025, 5.98 million people will need humanitarian assistance, including 4.6 million targeted for aid, with a financial requirement of $1.4 billion (UNOCHA Somalia). · Only 43.5% of the $1.59 billion 2024 HNRP funding has been secured, leaving key sectors severely underfunded.
· The nearing ATMIS withdrawal deadline raises concerns about potential humanitarian complications, including increased displacement and reduced access to aid in a worst-case scenario.
· Since January, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) reached a total of 49,1984 individuals across its programs, with 57% of participants being female. Of this total, 313,943 individuals, representing 64%, were supported through emergency response, including 7% in hard-to-reach (H2R) areas. Additionally, 148,906 individuals, or 30% of the total, were reached through durable solutions initiatives. NRC's reach in H2R areas across all programs amounted to 96,415 individuals, or 20% of the total.
