Key Highlights

• Somalia remains ensnared in a web of interlocking crises. Armed conflict, climate-induced shocks, recurrent disease outbreaks, and political instability collectively compound existing challenges, notably exacerbating insecurity and severely constraining humanitarian operations, particularly in the country's south and central regions.

• Persistent insecurity continues in Hirshabelle, Southwest, and Mogadishu, with over 8,000 newly displaced in Afgooye due to clashes.

• The 2025 Gu season brought erratic but above-average rainfall in southern and central Somalia, improving pasture but resulting in poor crop yields due to early cessation and variability.

• Flash floods displaced over 38,000 people and damaged infrastructure, while northern regions like Puntland and Somaliland faced prolonged drought and over 60 dry days.

• Over 4,300 AWD cases have been reported since March, largely due to disrupted WASH systems in flood-affected areas.

• Only 14% of the reprioritized HNRP ($367M) is funded; WASH stands at just 6.6%, leading to closures of 150+ health facilities and over 300,000 people losing access to clean water. Mobile health teams in Southwest dropped from 74 to 25; Puntland’s public health units are fully non-functional.

• More than 183,000 newly displaced in 2025 (94K by floods, 45K by drought, 28K by conflict), with overcrowded IDP sites under extreme pressure.

• Somalia’s eviction crisis is worsening, with 99,000 evicted in 2025 and only 18,000 prevented. In June alone, 11,000 people were evicted. NRC supports Kahda and Deynile ABCs with eviction trend analysis to guide timely responses and planning.

• Despite all these NRC Somalia reached 305,397 people between January and June 2025, 54.9% of them women. Emergency aid covered 234,144 people (77%), with 71,000 assisted in June alone. Support to hard-to-reach areas and durable solutions reached over 63,000, though both slightly declined.
