Key Highlights
- Somalia continues to face a dire humanitarian crisis despite a reduction in the number of people in need of assistance.
- An estimated 225,759 people have been affected by the Gu rains including 38,727 people displaced or relocated as of 14 May.
- At least 12,327 new cholera cases were reported since janaury, 2024, including 120 deaths representing a case fatality rate (CFR) of 1.1 per cent have been reported in seven states, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of 13 May.
- Forced eviction of displaced people is at an all-time high with at least 40,300 people evicted since January. 80 per cent in Banadir region, especially Daynille and Kahda districts.
- NRC Somalia program has assisted 222, 549 people (54% female), including 108, 517 reached through integrated first line emergency response between (JanMay2024).
- The 2024 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan which requires US$1.6 billion is just 20 per cent funded. Additional funds are required to urgently meet the needs of the affected people.
