In March 2011, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is based on a fixed minimum basket of goods and services, remained stable in all zones, except in Northeast, where it exhibited a monthly increase of 4 percent. Compared to the same month a year ago, the inflation is 15-35 percent higher in Somali Shilling (SoSh) and stable in Somaliland Shilling (SlSh) zones. However, the inflation rate is still significantly above the reference value (March 2007) in SoSh areas, (59-171%); it is equivalent to only 14 percent in SlSh zone.
