In April 2011, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is based on a fixed minimum basket of goods and services, increased by 3- 5 percent in the Northeast and Central and 11 percent in the South, while retaining relative stability in the Northwest. Compared to the same month a year ago, the inflation is 20-45 percent higher in Somali Shilling (SoSh) zones, while stable in Somaliland Shilling (SlSh) zones. However, compared to the base year (March 2007) the inflation is considerable (159- 185%) in SoSh areas: it is only 14 percent higher in SlSh zone.
