Heavy rains in last 5 days in Afgooye district have caused flooding across a large swath of AFGOI district has left more than 1500 People there have left their homes and have gone to seek for shelter, food, and other basic essential life needs And It could get even worsen in the upcoming days if actions are not taken immediately.
The floods affected three main areas of AFGOI district highly affected by this flash floods (due to high levels of Lower Shabelle River) for the last three days of this week including Dhagah Tuur(especially Dhamaley ), Bal-Guri and Raqayle and Eel-Qode (particularly Aytiro).
Most families of Dhagah Tuur area are almost displaced, flood waters have now completely settled in the most houses of that area. Moreover, the rest two areas have been observed to have lower number of displaced persons as compared to Dhagah Tuur area.
The first needs are drinking water, toilets and latrines. We also see that people need food, shelter and urgent medical attention. We also see medical conditions including diarrhea, vector-borne diseases and respiratory tract infections, and we are concerned about the possibility of an increase of malnutrition and other communicable diseases among children.
